Dave Ryan studied experimental film (MFA, Ohio University, 1987). His video works gained recognition at festivals and venues focussing on experimental film and video art including The Whitney Museum of American Art, Media City Film Festival, and Locarno Video Festival. He has been making interactive video works since 2003. Recent collaborative works with Mika Negishi Laidlaw and Steve Ryan have been featured at Minneapolis Institute of Art (2016), Nelson-Atkins Museum (Kansas City 2016), and Currents: Sante Fe International New Media Festival (2014, 2017). He currently teaches Digital Media Arts at Hamline University.
Steve Ryan studied neurophysiology (PhD, University of Michigan, 1989). He designs embedded systems and computer vision applications for use in interactive work. When not making interactive pieces, he conducts neurobiology research with a focus on synaptic transmission at Grinnell College.
